smarTrike Wonder: who it suits, features and limits

Created by Coolkidz Australia

The Wonder is the lightest model in the Wonder range at 5.9 kg, made for short walks, school runs and flights. Here is who it suits, what it includes and where its limits are.

A parent walking a small dog pushes a toddler in a smarTrike Wonder in Moonlight, with a white frame and black canopy.

Who the Wonder suits

The Wonder suits children from 10 months, once they can sit unaided, to about 3 years. It is the model families fly with most, and the easiest Wonder to carry up stairs, lift into a boot or take onto a tram.

Features and specifications

  • Suitable for: 10 months to about 3 years
  • Weight: 5.9 kg
  • Folded size: 54 × 25 × 34 cm, one piece
  • Seat: Breathable mesh
  • Harness: 5-point, plus a safety bumper bar
  • Canopy: 2-stage, removable for trike mode
  • Steering: Patented 360° one-handed steering that turns on the spot and reverses
  • Front wheel: Shock-absorbing
  • Brake: One-foot rear brake
  • Frame: Lightweight aluminium, white
  • Colour: Moonlight, a white frame with a black canopy

Limits to know

  • The seat does not recline, so the Wonder is not suitable for babies under 10 months. The Wonder max is the model for younger babies.
  • Because it sits upright, naps in the Wonder tend to be short and slumped.
  • The 2-stage canopy gives less shade than the 3-stage canopy on the Wonder+ and Wonder max. On long sunny outings, walk in the cooler parts of the day.

Teaching your child to steer

  1. From about 10 months, unlock the child handlebar. Your child holds it while you steer from the parent handle.
  2. From about 18 months, let them turn the handlebar towards things they want. Your hand on the parent handle gently overrides them when needed.
  3. When they pedal continuously and can stop on purpose, usually between 2 and 3, take the parent handle off for the ride out. Put it back on for the tired ride home.

Start on wide, flat paths and leave kerbs and gravel for later.

Harness and brake

Use the 5-point harness every time in stroller and trike modes, and put the rear brake on whenever you stop, even on flat ground.
