Mamave Bubba's Massage Oil: baby massage step by step

Created by Coolkidz Australia

Bubba's Massage Oil is a light blend of plant oils made for daily baby massage. Here is how Mamave suggests using it, and what is in the bottle.

Baby massage, step by step

  1. Choose a time after the bath, while your baby's skin is still slightly damp. Skin absorbs oils better when slightly damp. You can also use the oil on dry skin.
  2. Put a small amount of oil into your hands.
  3. Rub your hands together to warm the oil.
  4. Massage gently into your baby's skin in circular motions, paying careful attention to the tummy, legs and arms.
  5. Apply more oil as required.

If your baby's skin is extra dry, apply Bubba's Moisturiser first and follow with the Massage Oil. Mamave describes daily massage as a calming ritual for both baby and parent.

Cradle cap

Mamave says Bubba's Massage Oil can also be used to gently support cradle cap care. Warm a small amount in your hands and massage it in gently. For any questions about your baby's scalp or skin, talk to your GP or pharmacist.

What is in the oil

The blend includes safflower, apricot kernel, grape seed, sunflower, jojoba (certified organic), borage seed, rosehip, olive and evening primrose oils with natural vitamin E, aloe vera and calendula extract. The golden ingredients are:

  • Borage seed oil, naturally rich in GLA to nourish and protect delicate skin.
  • Rosehip oil, rich in skin loving vitamins.
  • Evening primrose oil, high in essential fatty acids to help soothe dryness.
  • Aloe vera and calendula extract, traditionally used to calm the skin.

It is lightly scented with lavender and ylang ylang essential oils, with no artificial fragrance. It is vegan and cruelty free. The oil contains apricot kernel oil, so check the full ingredient list if your family has any sensitivities.

When to start

Mamave recommends waiting until your baby is at least one month old before using skincare products, while their natural skin barrier forms. Patch test first, and check with your GP or pharmacist if your baby has a diagnosed skin condition.
