Frida Mom disposable postpartum underwear: sizing and which cut to choose

Created by Coolkidz Australia

Frida Mom disposable postpartum underwear comes in two cuts, High Waist and Boyshort, in one stretchy size. Both hold a maternity pad, cooling liner or Instant Ice Maxi Pad in place and are worn once, then binned.

High Waist or Boyshort?

  • High Waist: a taller band that sits above a caesarean incision from day one. Also fine after a vaginal birth if you prefer more coverage, and the more versatile choice if you are unsure.
  • Boyshort: sits at the natural waist with a wider leg, below a caesarean incision line. The everyday cut for vaginal birth recovery, or for anyone who prefers a lower rise.

Size guide

One size: Medium/Large. The waistband stretches from 71 cm to 107 cm (28 to 42 inches).

  • AU 8: 66 cm waist (26 in): roomy
  • AU 10: 71 cm (28 in): comfortable
  • AU 12: 76 cm (30 in): comfortable
  • AU 14: 81 cm (32 in): comfortable
  • AU 16: 86 cm (34 in): comfortable
  • AU 18: 91 cm (36 in): comfortable
  • AU 20: 96 cm (38 in): good fit
  • AU 22: 102 cm (40 in): snug, top of range
  • AU 24: 107 cm (42 in): at stretch limit

How to measure

  • Measure around your waist where the band will sit.
  • For the High Waist cut, postpartum that is usually up near the belly button rather than your natural waist.
  • For the Boyshort, measure at your natural waist.
  • Your belly is larger than your usual waist in the early weeks and you will be wearing a pad, so allow a little extra room. AU dress sizes are a guide only.

Wearing them

  1. Put the maternity pad, cooling liner or Instant Ice Maxi Pad inside the underwear before you pull them on.
  2. Pull them on gently. They are four-way stretch microfibre and spandex, with no seams or tags.
  3. Change them with the pad: wear once, then bin.

Expect two to four changes a day in the first 48 hours, then fewer. A pack of eight covers two to four days of the heaviest bleeding, so many mums buy two packs. They also work for heavy periods later on.
