Travelling with the Hannie Portable High Chair: packing, cafés and holidays

Created by Coolkidz Australia

Packed in its tote, the Hannie weighs about 2 kg including the cushion and fits under most pram baskets, so any venue with ordinary dining chairs can become baby-friendly.

Packing it up

  1. Remove the tray: pull it towards you, lift it upwards and press in the two circles to free it from the seat support.
  2. Press both sides of the front buckle at once to release it.
  3. Press both sides of the seat support in opposite directions to disconnect it, then lift it up and off the seat.
  4. Tilt the seat support so its front end sits beneath the front edge of the seat.
  5. Place all the straps and buckles in the seat compartment.
  6. Place the cushion in the seat compartment last.
  7. Tilt the front of the tray down into the slots above the compartment and press until it clicks.
  8. Slip the packed chair into its protective tote bag.

The Grab and go film on the how-to videos page shows the whole packing routine.

Where it earns its keep

  • Cafés and restaurants: attach it to a standard dining chair in under a minute, so your baby sits at the table in a seat they already know.
  • Holidays: a 2 kg chair in the boot means you are not relying on your accommodation having a high chair.
  • The grandparents' place: rather than buying a second high chair, the seat travels with your baby.
  • Out with the pram: packed in its tote, it fits under most pram baskets.

A simple eating-out kit

  • The Hannie in its tote, under the pram.
  • Two bibs, one for the meal and one for the ride home.
  • A damp cloth in a zip bag, because the tray wipes clean but faces do not.
  • A few familiar foods, even if you are ordering for them.

Check the chair wherever you go

Café and holiday rental chairs vary. Before you attach the seat, check the chair has four legs, a firm flat seat at least 38 cm wide and 35 cm deep, and a backrest at least 30 cm high. Skip bar stools, benches, and swivel, folding, rocking or padded chairs. The rules from home travel with the seat: harness clipped every time and an adult within arm's reach.

Not for cars, and not for carrying your child

Never use the Hannie in a motor vehicle, and never lift or carry your child while they are in the seat. Damage that happens during transport, including when the chair travels as luggage, is not covered by the warranty.
