The Hannie attaches to most standard dining chairs, but not to every chair. A tape measure and a couple of minutes will tell you whether yours is suitable.

The minimum chair sizes
The user manual sets out the minimum size of adult chair the Hannie can be used on, and the chair also needs to be the right type. Check all of these:
- Seat width: At least 38 cm, side to side at the widest usable point
- Seat depth: At least 35 cm, from the front edge to the backrest
- Backrest height: At least 30 cm, from the seat surface to the top of the backrest
- Legs: Four legs (not a stool or pedestal base)
- Seat surface: Firm and flat, not soft or padded
- Movement: Does not swivel, fold or rock
How to measure your chair
- Measure the seat from side to side at its widest usable point. It needs to be at least 38 cm.
- Measure the seat depth from the front edge of the seat to the backrest. It needs to be at least 35 cm.
- Measure the backrest from the seat surface to the top of the backrest. It needs to be at least 30 cm.
- Check the chair has four legs and a firm, flat seat, and that it does not swivel, fold or rock.
- If you would like a second opinion, enter your measurements in the interactive fit guide on the Hannie website for an answer in seconds.
Chairs that work and chairs to skip
These chairs usually work well:
- Solid timber dining chairs.
- Sturdy café-style chairs with firm seats.
- Chairs with a high, supportive backrest.
- Most standard four-leg kitchen chairs.
Do not attach the Hannie to any of these:
- Bar stools and backless benches.
- Swivel, rocking or folding chairs.
- Deeply padded or sprung seats.
- Anything wobbly, damaged or lightweight.
Positioning the seat on the chair
- Centre the seat on the adult chair, leaving at least 1 cm of chair seat clear on each side.
- Click and fasten the wide strap under the adult seat first, then click the narrow strap around the backrest.
- Make sure the rubber feet under the seat are sitting on the chair and working as contact points.
- Check both straps are tight before every use.
- Place the chair so your child cannot push their feet against the table or anything else, as this can tip the chair over.
The setup film on the Hannie how-to videos page shows the whole process from start to finish.
Only ever on an adult dining chair
The Hannie is designed only to be attached to a suitable adult dining chair. Never use it freestanding on the floor, on a table, in the bath or anywhere wet, and never leave your child unattended.
