Gaia Baby Serena Convertible Cot Bed: stages and set-up

The Serena Convertible Cot Bed is part of Gaia Baby's patented 8-in-1 growth system. One solid birch frame takes your child from a newborn cot to a first bed, and the Australian-made mattress is included.

The four stages

All the parts for these stages come in the box:

• Cot bed with the mattress in the high position: birth to about 6 months.
• Cot bed with the mattress in the low position: about 6 months to 3 years.
• Toddler bed: about 3 to 4 years.
• First bed: about 4 to 5 years.

The Junior Bed Extension, sold separately, extends the frame into a junior bed and takes the system to 7+ years. The Serena Toddler Rail, also sold separately, adds extra security once your child is in the toddler or first bed.

Lowering the mattress

Use the top base position for your newborn. Once your baby can push up on their hands, roll over or pull up on the sides, usually at around 6 months, you must move the base to the bottom position, and always before your baby can sit up unaided. The bottom position is the safest position for the cot base.

When your child is able to climb out, stop using it as a cot and convert it straight away to the toddler bed or first bed. In the toddler bed one side panel comes off so your child can climb in and out, and the other side panel must always stay in place.

Assembly and care

• The cot bed arrives in three boxes.
• An Allen key is supplied. You will also need a cross head screwdriver.
• Do not fully tighten the bolts on the cot sides until the whole cot is assembled, and never over-tighten them.
• When fitting the top base position rails, make sure the pilot holes face upwards.
• Keep unused fittings somewhere safe and out of children's reach, as you will need them for later stages.
• Check and tighten all fittings every 2 to 3 weeks.
• Clean with a damp cloth. Never use bleach or abrasive cleaners, as they damage the surface.
• Once converted to a toddler or first bed, place it tight against a wall or leave a 300 mm gap, and keep it away from heaters, windows and other furniture.

Gaia Baby furniture has a 2 year warranty from the date of purchase. Register your product within 3 months of purchase and the warranty extends to 5 years.
